This guide explains the key Profit and Loss (P&L) terms in Bitget EU spot trading, including realized PnL and unrealized PnL. It also provides a step-by-step example to help you understand these calculations.

Key Terms of PnL in Spot Trading

1. Unrealized PnL: The floating profit or loss on assets you haven't sold yet. It is based on the current market price and fluctuates with price movements.

  • Formula: Unrealized PnL = Unrealized PnL = closing position × (last price – average entry price)

2. Realized PnL: Realized P&L is the actual profit or loss after selling an asset.

  • Formula: Realized PnL = Total sell volume × (average exit price – average entry price)

  • Note: "Total sell volume" in the formula refers to the amount received after trading, with the transaction fee already deducted.

3. Today’s PnL: Reflects the profit or loss over the current day, factoring in changes in assets and transfers.

  • Formula: Today’s PnL = Current Assets - Assets at 12:00 AM UTC - Net Inbound Transfers

4. 7-Day PnL: It tracks profit or loss over the past 7 days, based on asset snapshots and trading activity.

  • Formula: 7-Day PnL = current assets – assets on the 12:00 AM snapshot 7 days ago (UTC+0) – 7d net inbound transfers.

Example: Spot Trading P&L Calculation

You buy 1 BTC at $90,000 and later sell it at $95,000. The trading fee is 0.1% per trade.

1. Unrealized PnL (before selling)

If BTC’s price rises to $94,000 before selling:

  • Formula: Unrealized PnL = closing position × (last price – average entry price)

  • Calculation: 1 x (94,000 – 90,000) = 4,000 USDC

2. Realized PnL (after selling)

Since you sell BTC at $95,000, your profit calculation is as follows:

  • Total Sell Volume (BTC Sold After Fees) = 1 × (1 - 0.1%) = 0.999 BTC

  • Formula: Realized P&L = Total sell volume × (Average exit price – Average entry price)

  • Calculation: 0.999 × (95,000 – 90,000) = 4,995 USDC
